Recreation Program Coordinator – Parks and Recreation Department 

Hours – Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 4:30 pm 

Starting Salary = $ 52,171.00 per year Salary commensurate with experience. 

Under the direction of the Parks & Recreation Director and Parks & Recreation Assistant Director; the Recreation Program Coordinator is responsible for administering comprehensive Township Recreation programs and special events.  Participates/assists in the planning, coordinating, implementing promoting and overseeing activities of selected recreational programs, facilities and special events.  Trains, schedules, monitors and assists in evaluations assigned to staff and volunteers.  

Job Duties / Responsibilities: 

  • Oversees and coordinates all summer sport camps, academic camps, and after school programs.

  • Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates, and evaluates activities and operations of assigned programs, projects, events and facilities.

  • Plans and directs an expanding flexible program of recreational activities for all segments of the community, including senior citizens, adults and children.

  • Communicate with township schools regarding reserving school facilities for programs and events.

  • Manage all human resources documentation and payroll for programs.

  • Manage and process Purchase Orders for programs and obtain quotes as needed.

  • Order supplies, equipment and uniforms as needed. Maintain Inventory.  Work within a determined budget.

  • Ability to learn and use Recreation software.

  • Assist in seasonal department newsletter.

  • Prepare proposed programs and assist with programming statistics.

  • Assist customers in-person, by phone and by email.

  • Distribute information and redirect inquiries to other departments or outside organizations as appropriate.

  • Oversee and coordinate Special Events.

  • Required to work some nights and weekends.

  • Assist the Parks & Recreation Director and Assistant Director in assigned projects and requests.

  • Performs other department duties as assigned.

Required Key Technical Skills & Knowledge:

  • MS Office Suite
  • Project/Program Management
  • Customer Service and problem resolution 
  • Vendor Management (RFPs, Bids, Quotes)

Desired Skills:

Personnel and/or Payroll management experience (recruit, hire, evaluate) 

  • Experience with Vermont Systems RecTrac & GovPilot software preferred. 
  • Knowledge of the methods used to plan, organize and coordinate a parks and recreation program.
  • Ability to work under stressful situations; ability to stay calm; have excellent problem-solving skills.

Education / Certification / License Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Minimum (3) years of professional recreation or community service experience

Education / Certification / License Desired:

  • BA degree in Recreation or related field
  • Municipal government experience

 

This position is active and requires the ability to supervise activities, programs, special events, etc.

Ability to work in outside weather conditions exposed to heat, cold, wet, or humid conditions and loud noises.

Ability to lift equipment and materials in excess of 30 pounds and move them a minimum of 50 feet. 

Effective 9/1/11, all employees of State and local government must reside in the State of NJ, unless exempted.

Must have a valid NJ Driver’s License.
